“That’ll be $69 an ounce, sir.” The dispensary clerk told my husband, who wanted to try a small sampling of Green Dragon, a strain of cannabis that was advertised to relax you without the side effects of getting the munchies. Walking into the place, we were immediately presented with a full menu of different strains of marijuana. Each offering different ways of enhancing our reducing various human conditions.
Such as it has been here in Oregon since 2015 when the voters of Oregon overwhelmingly voted to legalize a substance that is safer to use than alcohol. Who’d a thunk?
I myself don’t really partake marijuana all that much. Sure, its great for unwinding, relaxing and for soothing a myriad of ailments. I’m all for its responsible use. But for me, at least right now, it doesn’t do much for me. And that’s perfectly fine. Maybe one day my time will come. For most people, marijuana gives you a great buzz without the nasty side effects of alcohol, such as headaches and hangovers!
Cannabis brings people together in a way other mind-altering substances do not. Strangers congregate together and “smoke a bowl”. I assure you, these people who may have never met before will indeed find some common ground before the night is over, and find a new friend or two.
Over the past couple of years, legalized marijuana dispensaries have cropped up exponentially all over the state, and especially in Portland. As a result, prices have dropped somewhat. A 17 to 20 percent state tax is charged for each sale. That is a lot of money going into the State of Oregon’s coffers and it is a very good thing! According to www.oregon.gov, these proceeds go towards education, mental health treatment, state law enforcement, and the individual cities and counties of Oregon.
There are several reputable tour companies that provide cannabis tours in Portland and other areas. I am not affiliated with any of these companies, but I’ve done my research and they are well worth a look into. They will give you an entertaining and informative tour of the cannabis industry as it now stands, thrown in with a bit of history and perhaps a sample or two of marijuana if you are so inclined!
