A Groovy Place to Unwind
Every summer, sometime in July, thousands of glorious hippies descend upon the tiny town of Veneta in west-central Oregon to pay their respects to all things groovy. The Oregon Country Fair is a 3-day festival where there is music, crafts, activities for the kids, camping, and so much more.
This is a place where you can get your tie dye on, get your body painted, and just generally let your freak flag fly. Just about anything goes here. And yet it is family friendly. I can’t think of another event where the magical camaraderie is as prevalent as the OCF. Everyone is truly welcome here (whether you call yourself a hippie or not!)
If you’re looking for something to do in Oregon in the middle of summer, this is the places to be.Â
It’s no wonder that tickets and campsites fill up quickly year after year. This is a place where you can truly unwind and soak up the laid-back country culture as if it were a vintage wine. It’s a great place to bring the kids, as well.
Artistic Entertainment, Whirling Dervishes and Body Painting, Oh My!!
I’ve been here a couple of times over the years, and let me tell you, it’s a treat. No two years are the same. Every time I come, there is a myriad of new experiences, and new unique artists making their mark on the festival. The one time I camped here, I remember gently falling asleep to bongo drums a few campsites away; where the gentle rhythms helped me to drift off peacefully and I spent a dreamy night floating under the stars. And as the first hints of daylight approached, I was gently awakened by the cheery call of another camper singing “Good Morning!” over the still-beating drums.
More Info
You can buy tickets for one, two or all three days of the festival. The camping nearby is privately run by neighbors who graciously offer up their fields for the weekend, and is separate from the Oregon Country Fair organization. However, the official OCF website below has contact information for reserving those campsites and other types of accommodation.
The Oregon Country Fair is a collection of art, culture, food, and performance that is quintessentially Oregon. Get all of the latest information at http://www.oregoncountryfair.org/
