Romantic Getaways in Washington State
- Salish Lodge & Spa, Snoqualmie
- Best for: Rustic romance, outdoor hikes
- Best time of year: Summer
- Budget: Mid-range
Salish Lodge is an escape from the world nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. A short drive east of Seattle brings you pretty quickly to the dense forests of Washington State, where the tiny town of Snoqualmie awaits. Think Twin Peaks. But even if you’re not a fan of the now-defunct cult classic TV show, you are sure to be romanced as soon as you walk into Salish Lodge & Spa.
Not only do they have spacious modern rooms (many with romantic fireplaces), they also have a top-notch spa so you can really be pampered. My partner Andy treated me to my first-ever full-body massage and facial at Salish Lodge – it was amazing!
The restaurant serves all three meals featuring fresh local ingredients so you never have to leave the property. We had breakfast there and it always comes with two house-made biscuits where the server tells the story of the origins of the lodge as they drip honey onto your biscuit from way up high, as if to mimic the waterfall just outside!
Some really great hikes are just steps from the property. The highlight? The famous Snoqualmie Falls will literally take your breath away.

Romantic Places in Washington State
- Bavarian Lodge, Leavenworth

Leavenworth is a wonderful Bavarian-style town and a place in central Washington State I come back to again and again. This produces a luxurious array of mosses, fungi, and old-growth trees, free from the incessant noise of civilization.
What impresses me about this national park is its dedication to preservation. The main roads stick to the perimeter of the Olympic Peninsula, while the interior is largely untouched, and much of it is off-limits to visitors. Commercial planes are prohibited from flying over the airspace. Now that’s paradise.
