Why This is the Year for RV Travel

When you think of taking your wanderlust on the road in an RV, what is the first emotion that you experience? Elation? Abject trepidation? Instant terror?

Or a smattering of all three?

More importantly, have you ever vacationed in an RV before? RV travel in Oregon and Washington state has seen a huge increase as of late, and it’s only getting more popular. This is thanks, in part, to our amazing natural landscape, out incredible state and national parks. Our Cascade Mountain Range playground and unbeatable coastal delights.

But it is also due to the fact that people just want to take back their freedom and be able to travel safely.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to drive a mammoth road hog that also happens to be a gas guzzler and can be pretty tricky to steer, especially down narrow city streets? Sounds like fun, right?

Why am I all of a sudden hearing crickets?

Not only that, you get to be in very close quarters with your faithful travel companions. Because let’s face it, no matter how well you think you get along with your family or your significant other at home, make no mistake, your love for one another WILL be tested during an RV road trip.

I ask you, who wouldn’t want that?

I can just see it now. After a few days, in a desperate attempt to lessen the tensioning family drama, I guarantee you, someone is going to insist they pick up a hitchhiker, just to break the monotony. The scarier the hitchhiker, the better.

Yes, I’m joking. Be careful out on the road, kids.

So why RV travel?

It’s pretty simple, really. People want to be more independent. They want more control over their travel itinerary. Many no longer want to be beholden to hotel reservations, airline delays, and other scheduled activities.

It’s getting out onto the open road, baby! It’s all about going with the flow and being spontaneous!

People are taking charge of their vacation destiny and doing things their own way. And it’s beautiful.

This is better than the living room in my house.

Here are some amusing RV bumper stickers I’ve seen on the road:

“Sorry for what I said as I was trying to park the camper. Because geometry is hard. Backward geometry is harder.”

“God gave us shins, so we could find the trailer hitch in the dark.”

“If you tailgate, we will flush!”

“RVers don’t have decorations. They have Travel Gnomes.”

“My other car is my house.”

And of course the classic.…”What happens in the RV, stays in the RV.”

So while I’m making light of RV travel, let’s take it down a notch and get serious for a moment. RV travel really is the cat’s meow. Here’s why:

Getting Away from the Crowds

Wider open spaces are becoming chic, at last. In fact, over 80 percent of Americans have indicated they would love to take an RV trip of some sort in the near future. Now’s your chance! Road trip vacations offer a wealth of options, as state and national parks are adjusting their hours and amenities to accommodate the increase in capacity.

RVs are Only Getting More Modern

Amazing entertainment systems, sleek and modern showers, and high-end cooking appliances are just a few of the reasons why it’s becoming more comfortable to adapt an RV lifestyle, if only for a week or two. There’s no more “roughing it” when you dive into RV travel.

RVs come in many sizes and configurations, ready to accommodate group sizes up to 8 people.

No Need for Hotel Reservations

And there’s no unpacking your suitcase! When you are done exploring for the day, you only need to take a few steps to your RV sleeping quarters and flop exhausted but happy onto the pillow. There are RV resorts and camping spots all over the country. Many don’t need reservations.

Here a great article on boondocking – another great way for the spontaneous to take advantage of the open road.
