As soon as I walked in the door, the open concept area with a large brick fireplace and classic wood-beamed ceilings invited me in. Comfy sofas in front of the fire invite small gatherings and a chance to just relax.
First of all, I was treated insanely well. The minute I stepped up to the check-in desk before I even gave my name, I was treated to a complimentary Pilsner or caffeinated beverage, from a serving station located right behind check-in. Now I ask you, who even does that?!? Not even 5-star hotels. It’s brilliant.
Just next to the lobby is Provisions café. With a vegan-forward menu, you have just a couple of meat options. In a world where most menus are meat-centric with vegan options, they have a vegan-centric menu with meat options. A refreshing twist that satisfies both the omnivore and carnivore. And keeps you kind of healthy!
COMMUNITY Gathering areas both on the top and bottom floors encourage the sharing of food and of ideas. For socializing, collaborating and working.
The hotel arranges yoga classes, business meetings, and has a game/reading room, and a workroom. There are plans to invite various speakers to their cozy community room, sort of like a TED talk, where people can come and hear about all manner of subjects.
And they are pet-friendly! Dogs are allowed and a fee is charged per stay, not per night. Dogs beds are provided, which you get to take home, if you so choose, making it a very affordable pet package.
SCP Redmond is a renovated historical building from 1908. Originally made almost entirely of wood, much of it burned in 1927, and was rebuilt using stone in 1928. During the recent renovation, the hotel saw fit to retain the beautiful original flooring and many other features throughout.
Wifi is complimentary throughout the hotel and in all 49 guest rooms. It’s located on the town’s main drag, with lots of new and upcoming restaurants, bars and shops. There is limited street parking and also parking in the back of the hotel, free of charge.
The management takes care to hire only the best people that are in tune with their philosophy – they don’t try to mold their employees into something they’re not. The result? A friendly and welcoming atmosphere where you are truly treated as a valued guest in a personable way.
PLANET Leading the charge for eco-friendly hospitality.
SCP Redmond has taken great strides to ensure you have the best eco-hotel experience possible. I salute them for their pioneering efforts to bring you towels made from recycled materials that are surprisingly soft. And their ultra-comfortable, soy-based mattresses that they cannot simply buy bulk from a hotel supplier. They have to actively seek out and find these earth-friendly components to fill every single room, and it is not easy.
But they do it to give their guests the best experience possible, while also doing their part to take care of our planet.
All of the rooms are stylishly updated in modern, minimalistic décor. I like to call it simplistic elegance with modern design and amenities. It was the perfect blend of coziness and sophistication that I really appreciate in a good hotel room. I felt instantly at home.
There are three types of rooms to suit all tastes and budgets. Smaller rooms with still enough space for your yoga routine, Peaceful rooms with no television, but instead scent diffusers (with your choice of scent), white noise machines and yoga mats. Then there are the larger rooms with a sitting area and space to really spread out.
I seriously did not want to leave my room. I was too enamored with my ultra-comfy bed, my ergonomic desk, and my awesome subway-tiled shower with yummy-scented bath amenities. But alas, my stomach had other ideas, so I ventured up to the rooftop for dinner.
The Rooftop is a bar and restaurant currently open Wednesday – Sundays, but will soon expand their hours. With indoor and outdoor seating, there are a few intimate tables inside. But the real draw is their stunning outdoor rooftop setup. Cozy up with your drink and tapas plate around a fire as you look out over the town of Redmond. On a clear day, you will be able to see the surrounding mountains of Three Sisters and Mt. Bachelor. Stunning!
They also have a small rooftop garden with fresh produce that makes its way directly into their menu. Even in the winter, they grow their own herbs that eventually end up as a garnish on some plates and in certain drinks.
The personalized service at The Rooftop is superb, and the bar stocks top-shelf spirits mainly produced right here in the Pacific Northwest. I had great conversations with both the chef and waitress – another welcome rarity!
SCP hotels currently have three locations – Colorado Springs, Depoe Bay and now Redmond. And they are just getting started.
