Things to do in Sisters, Oregon
The Three Sisters Wilderness is nearby and the best way to experience it quickly is to drive the McKenzie Highway, or Route 242. It has some of the most amazing scenery – however, the road is closed from November through June due to wintry conditions. The total length of the highway is 37 miles, and you’ll find breathtaking views around every bend.
Suttle Lake is 15 miles west of town and is a great day trip. You can hike around it, kayak or boat in it, swim in its cool waters, camp along the shore, and let the breeze blow all around you as you SUP in the wide-open waters with gorgeous views of Mt. Washington.
Sample the Craft Brew Scene at Three Creeks Brewing, which is named for a locally loved lake just up the road apiece. Whether its a HooDoo IPA, a Knotty Blonde Ale, a Stonefly Rye or a seasonal brew, relax with a beer sampling after a day of outdoor adventures. You’d better come hungry, as well, because their menu is varied and delectable.

Hiking in Sisters, Oregon
This is hard to pin down, as there are hundreds of hiking trails in the area. Depending on your fitness level, you will have to choose wisely. Easy to the most demanding routes are easily accessible from Sisters. However, here are the highlights:
- McKenzie River Waterfalls Loop Trail – Magical forests, with views of spectacular waterfalls consisting of Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls. It is a nice 3-mile loop and the trailhead is located just a ½ hour drive west of Sisters.
- Black Butte Lookout – rated at moderate, this 4-mie hike is an out and back trail, with about 1,556 feet of elevation gain. Once you reach the lookout tower, you are rewarded with one of the best views in Oregon.
- Proxy Falls – located at McKenzie Highway 242, it’s a 28-mile drive from Sisters. At only 2 miles roundtrip, this hike is family-friendly and fairly easy. You will enjoy two different waterfall views of Proxy Falls’ upper and lower sections.
