I spent an incredible morning just outside of Portland zip lining through the trees. What is scary? Maybe a little. Was it fun? Absolutely!

Nestled in the scenic hills of North Plains, just a short drive from downtown Portland, Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour offers an exhilarating canopy tour that will leave you breathless—in the best way possible!

Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour has been delighting adventure seekers since 2013. Founded by a group of passionate outdoor enthusiasts, the tour was conceived as a way to share their love of nature and adventure with the public. Drawing on their extensive experience in the outdoor recreation industry, the founders meticulously designed each zip line and platform to ensure a thrilling yet safe experience for all participants.

By combining their expertise with the breathtaking natural beauty of the North Plains, Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour has become a beloved destination for both locals and visitors who crave a mix of excitement and the great outdoors

This was only my second foray into ziplining. The first didn’t really count; it was over Las Vegas’ Fremont Street, after all. It was fun, but I felt rushed through like a herd of cattle and they made me take off my glasses, so I couldn’t really see the ant people crawling all over Fremont Street.

But Pumpkin Ridge is an entirely different zip lining experience. It is infinitely better! Here you are out in nature; the perfect setting for the activity.

Along with a group of fellow travel creators, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a tad bit nervous. But zip lining instructors being who they are, I was quickly set at ease. The great people at Pumpkin Ridge are friendly, super laid back, and always had our safety in mind. We were given a helpful safety pep talk and expertly outfitted in our gear.

Pumpkin Ridge is run by zip lining experts and consists of seven segments. I’m not going to even begin to describe the euphoria you feel as you let go of your footing on each platform and whiz through the tree tops to the next platform. You’ll just have to experience it for yourself.

You start off easily, with the first platform just a few feet off the ground. But things get progressively higher from there. Later down the line you’re greeted with a spectacular view of the forest and Tualatin Valley beyond.

If you are afraid of heights, you may have a little trouble. But it’s all in the mind. Just don’t look down! Being an adventurous traveler, even I had a couple of freak out moments, but I quickly overcame them with the camaraderie of my group and the professionalism of the staff.

In short, I was in good hands.

My only real danger was dropping my phone as I took footage of myself careening through the trees. My new friends and I took photos of each other. We laughed, we shared experiences, we bonded. You tend to do that when the only thing separating you from the forest floor 150 feet below is the air and the safety straps around your body.

Before you know it, the tour was over. So savor every moment.

Actually, at the end I chastised myself for being such a wimp. I tended to hang on to the straps when I was in the air, but you don’t need to. You can literally spread your arms wide and fly like a bird. Next time, I have some ideas. I want to learn how to spin around and put my feet up more. It’s the closest thing to being a bird as us lowly humans will get. Our guides always made us feel looked after and safe, and led us gently through it the entire way.

I did not go to this one, but you can be sure it’s on my list! I’ve heard only good things about it.

The park was founded by a group of adventurous spirits who wanted to bring a touch of excitement and a dose of nature to the local community. Since opening its doors in 2010, Tree to Tree has grown exponentially, drawing visitors from near and far with its blend of exhilarating activities and picturesque surroundings.
